Dholera smart city is india's first greenfield smart city. The indian government initially conceived the dholera sustainable urban development project.
Dholera smart city is a proposed greenfield smart city being developed in the state of gujarat, india, approximately 80 kilometers from ahmedabad. The city will span 920 square kilometers and is expected to accommodate up to 1.2 million residents. Situated in an area rich in natural resources, dholera sir is poised to become a major hub for trade and industry. The development is part of the delhi mumbai industrial corridor, funded by both the central government and international investors. Upon completion, dholera smart city is projected to be one of india’s largest greenfield smart cities, six times the size of singapore.
Dholera smart city will be a world-class, sustainable city that is climate-resilient and resource-efficient. The dholera international airport will create jobs for locals, potentially reducing migration and unemployment in the region. The gujarat government has approved the state's first monorail project, connecting ahmedabad and the dholera special investment region (sir).
The dholera smart city project is being developed in phases. Phase i, covering 150 square kilometers and accommodating 400,000 people, is expected to be completed by 2023. Phase ii is scheduled for completion in 2030, and the final phase is set for 2042. Construction on phase i has already begun. Phase iii, which will start after phase ii, is divided into two planning areas: 74.75 square kilometers and 67.63 square kilometers.
